Free Thought

"Dare to think for yourself." -Voltaire

Think for yourself and question the authorities that run your life. There are no foolish questions because when one begins to question: the world around them, their country, their traditions, and their own god they break 'free' politically and spiritually and liberate their minds to a new 'world'. The greatest power that we all share as individuals is the power to decide for ourselves and chose our own 'path'. Now go out into your extraordinary life and dare to think for yourself, that is the transcendentalists way.

  1. This strikes me in a way that's hard to explain. I've known many people who don't really think for themselves, they listen and do as others tell them to and it leaves me thinking "What kind of life is one which you can't even think for yourself?" It leads me to believe that he who lives not only independently but who can also think for himself and yet retain who he is in nature while in the mist of a crowd is he who really lives.

  2. Free thought is based on the belief of ones own instincts. But one cannot follow them if they are taken away by a higher authority. When a higher authority takes the privilege of free thought away, the person may rebel or may submit. This will define the type of person you create yourself to be.

  3. Our minds should expand beyond our horizons and the only way we can do that is by asking questions. And like you said, there are no foolish questions. You couldn't have said it better.
